What’s in a name?

Adloquium

The word Adloquium is Latin, meaning to “talk, encourage, with friendly/reassuring words.” We first encountered the word playing video games, as a spell of healing and protection. This spell was wielded by a Scholar, a person of learning who devoted their knowledge to healing and enhancing others. In one instance, the spell provided both healing and protection from future harm. It seemed appropriate to strive to emulate a wise healer who builds up and protects others through the power of kind words and encouragement.

Plus is also just sounds really cool.

Dr. William Nation

Executive Director

Will was born and raised in Dallas, Texas,  to a family that has lived in the state forever. He attended community college there and rekindled a passion for mental health that had been shaped by his experiences with mental health systems as an adolescent. His educational journey in psychology led him ever northward, leading to Cornell College in Iowa, a short stop in Minneapolis, and to Loyola University Chicago. Post master’s, he returned to Texas before entering the Ph.D. Counseling Psychology program at Texas Womans University. His final training year for this program was an internship at Johns Hopkins University Counseling Center.

Will works from an existential-humanist lens, focusing on the big-picture questions and helping clients live lives that carry personal meaning and satisfaction. In therapy, he uses a multi-theoretical approach tailored to client needs. These can include cognitive, behavioral, emotional-focused, acceptance and commitment, and other principles. He also uses novel approaches in therapy, such as the usage of gaming, nerd culture, and outside-the-box coping skills. His greatest hope is to develop unique ways to help clients that are filled with collaboratively created steps.

When not working, Will enjoys sports of many stripes, including football, soccer, baseball, and even esports. He is also a big fan of gaming, tabletop, and video, constantly buying new games that go into a pile waiting to be played. He has a passion for narrative and stories, which also extends to books, movies, and comics.

Will is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Maryland, #06988

Barbara is a student at Liberty University and an Intern for Dr. Nation. She is earning her Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling. She works with teens ages 16-19 and Adults. She also works with couple relationships. She creates a judgment-free space because people deserve to work with someone willing to help them, no matter their past or current experiences.

Barbara uses an eclectic therapy style to utilize the intervention style that fits each client. No two people are the same or experience life the same. Barbara aims to walk through the process with the client, help them through to the other side of their problems, and equip them with the tools to move forward.

“I do my thing, and you do your thing. I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine. You are you, and I am me. And if by chance we find each other, it will be beautiful.”  – Fritz Pearls
